Lesson Plans for April 29 - May 15, 2020

L Lovelace Biology Lesson Plans 4-29-2020 to 5-13-2020

Use the internet, the Biology textbook, the Green Butterfly booklet, and the packets themselves to answer the questions for the following study packets pertaining to Cellular Energy and Karyotypes.  There will be an online Biology Test on Cellular Energy on Tuesday May  5, 2020.  All of the questions from the completed Karyotype Activity are due May 15, 2020.  The below study questions, videos, and Kahoot games will help you prepare for the upcoming test.  The Zoom tutorials will help you prepare for the upcoming test and will help you complete the Karyotype Activity.  As always, contact me if you have questions.

April 22, 2020:  I will be hosting Kahoot Games on Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.  Prior to this I will text and email you the information for joining the games.  

April 23 and 24, 2020:  Photosynthesis Formula and Cellular Respiration Formula Study Questions

Complete the following assignments on the designated dates.

Monday April 27, 2020:  Complete Steps of Photosynthesis Study Questions and turn in

Tuesday April 28, 2020:  Complete Steps of Cellular Respiration Study Questions and turn in

Wednesday April 29, 2020:  Watch my personal instructional video on Photosynthesis that I have posted on my webpage.

Thursday April 30, 2020:  Watch my personal instructional video on Cellular Respiration that I have posted on my webpage. 

Friday May 1, 2020:  I will post the correct answers for each of the five sets of Study Questions on my webpage.  You are to use these to make sure your answers are correct.  These same Study Questions will appear on the test and you can use your Study Question Sheets while you are taking the test.  The test needs to be completed by Wednesday May 6, 2020.

Monday May 4, 2020:  I will host a Zoom review session for those interested on this day.  I need feedback on when would be an ideal time for this session.

Tuesday May 5, 2020:  The Gradecam online window for the Cellular Energy Test will open on May 4, 2020 at 7 PM and you should have the test completed no later than Wednesday May 16, 2020, 11: 59 PM.

Wednesday May 6, 2020:  Complete the Cellular Energy Test online through Gradecam.

Karyotype Activity – Write all of your answers for this activity on notebook paper and submit the answers once the packet is complete.

Thursday May 7, 2020:  Read the Pre-Lab Discussion on page 143 of the Karyotype packet.  

  • For a normal human karyotype, there would be 23 homologous pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46 chromosomes.
  • Question 1: Define Karyotype
  • Question 2: Define homologous pair

Friday May 8, 2020:  Read Procedure Part A. Analyzing a Karyotype and study Figure 1.

  • The karyotype pictured in Figure 1 belongs to a normal human male.
  • The chromosomes in homologous pair 1 through homologous pair 22 are autosomes.
  • The chromosomes in homologous pair 23 are sex chromosomes.
  • One of the sex chromosomes in homologous pair 23 is a bigger X shape, called an X chromosome. The other sex chromosome in this pair is a smaller x shape, called a y chromosome.  Since the sex chromosomes in homologous pair 23 are an x chromosome and a y chromosome the Figure 1 karyotype must belong to a male.   
  • Question 3: Define Autosome
  • Question 4: Define Sex Chromosome
  • Question 5: What would the two sex chromosomes in the 23rd pair be if the karyotype belonged to a normal human female?

Monday May 11, 2020:  Observe the Karyotype pictured in Figure 3 and answer the following questions.

  • Question 6: How many autosomes are in the karyotype pictured in Figure 3?
  • Question 7: How many sex chromosomes are in the karyotype pictured in Figure 3?
  • Question 8: Are there any abnormalities in the karyotype pictured in Figure 3?  If so, where?

Tuesday May 12, 2020:  Observe the Karyotype pictured in Figure 3 and answer the following questions.

  • Question 9: Is the karyotype pictured in Figure 3 that of a normal person or a person with a genetic disorder?  If the person has a disorder, then identify the disorder.
  • Question 10: Does the karyotype pictured in Figure 3 belong to a male or a female?

Wednesday May 13, 2020:  Observe the Karyotype pictured in Figure 4.  The person has a disorder due to the abnormality in the 23rd pair.  Research and answer the following questions.

  • Question 11: What is the name of the disorder of the person in Figure 4?
  • Question 12: Is the person in Figure 4 a male or a female?  

Thursday May 14, 2020:  Observe the Karyotype pictured in Figure 5.  The person has a disorder due to the abnormality in the 23rd pair.  Research and answer the following questions.

  • Question 13: What is the name of the disorder of the person in Figure 5?
  • Question 14: Is the person in Figure 5 a male or a female? 

Friday May 15, 2020:  Complete and submit the Karyotype Activity Questions
