it is just going to be a brief video reviewing discovery of cells and history of cell theory important to remember that cellular biology and what we know of it has been a collaborative effort but many different researchers over time adding your own country given data together kind of compiling it into what we understand it fell today this is also something it's not finished science as our technology improves our understanding of cells is also going to increase and improve because obviously the biggest destruct understanding cells is their small size Robert Hooke is a really important name to remember when it comes to psi their biology he was an English scientist and he looked at cork cells under a microscope a very small microscope he made and he thought he small rectangular geometric shapes and they reminded him of the simple room that monks stayed in a monastery which were called cells and so he called the small structures that every living thing is made of cells he's the one who coined that term does a publish a book called micrographia in 1665 is his most famous work and one of the reasons it was so notable or important is because it had these incredibly detailed illustrations that hook threw himself and they allowed people to see very small organ I like fleas and ants that they never had before so these are a few of his illustrations you can see they're very painstakingly drawn their very detailed and it is just something that most people didn't have access to it. the father of microbiology another very important name and cellular biology is Anton Van Leeuwenhoek use a Dutch scientist water among other things under microscopes and when he saw that they were small moving living things inside and because they were living he thought they must be animals so he called these tiny animals and multiples this is an example of the simple type of microscope that van leeuwen talk with you the single lens hand-held microscope and it would just do a very very basic magnification of a sample of cells Matthias schleiden with a German scientists and he's the one who concluded that all plants are made of cells whereas the other German scientist Theodor Schwann said that all animals are composed of cells and you can remember this because Swan looks like Swan so he is the one who said animals are composed of cells where slide is that that plants are Rudolf virchow is going to kind of tied all this together and added the last piece of cell theory he said that all cells come from pre-existing cells meaning they don't just spontaneously generate they have to come from the soil that's already is in existence and he also said that the nucleus or that small dense structure in the middle of the cell is responsible for cell division which is a process we're going to talk about more in the future Sony Vaio all of this data and all this information at the scientist and you kind of simplify the terms you get cell theory and three statements of cell theory are all organisms are composed of are made of cells and it could be one cell or more than that the cell is the basic unit of organization structure or life organisms in all cells come from arise from pre-existing cells
