this is not the way you want a plant look especially if you wanted to keep that plant because your daughter I gave it to you as a present this flap unfortunately has left the realm of the living and has now entered result in plants thanks all of my plans are not doing horrible these plants are actually doing well look at this funky green stuff turn on the side of my White House it is definitely time for some pressure washing these are some Oaks that my dad and I planted in my yard have grown very nicely they've been here for several years now some Live Oaks and a red oak trees in my yard puppy and I have walk down to the pond that is on our farm this pain is green algae and frogs how about you most of those frogs are green or brown those guys can't do what that allergy can can they pop star so all of these images that I have shown you for my farm in summer I relate to photosynthesis that is from the algae that we can see on the side of my house and in my pond to some protists that might exist in the pain that we can't see it goes from the biggest trees in my yard to the smallest plants on my deck except of course the one that I killed because let's face it that's suckers never going to be able to perform photosynthesis yen so I'm offering you a very simplified explanation of what photosynthesis exactly is we need to have a broad idea of exactly what is happening during photosynthesis so first any photosynthetic organism must have access to 3 Atkins and they are pictured here on the left and those reactants are sunlight carbon dioxide and water the photosynthetic organism will transport these materials into a special cell structure that you've seen before and it is the chloroplast and we'll talk about it more surely then after photosynthesis has taken place the organism will have created the simple sugar known as glucose which is its food and it will also have created oxygen that it will release into the atmosphere as a waste product so those substances the glucose and oxygen are pictured on the right and they are the pro types of photosynthesis if we were looking at photosynthesis as a chemical formula then it could be presented as this image that you see here on the left or the react there are six carbon dioxide molecules and 6 water molecules also coming in from the left is sunlight which energizes the photosynthetic reaction and then written on the right would be your products which would include one molecule of glucose which is C6 h-12 o-6 and then there would be 6 oxygen molecules photosynthetic process is going to take place in specialized organelles found in autotrophs known as chloroplast these chloroplast allow autotrophs to make their own food so let's take a close look at the essential parts of a chloroplast first you need to know what a thylakoid is in this picture as you can see the thylakoids are the small green disc this is the location where the light dependent reaction of photosynthesis will occur and we'll talk about that reaction the moment if you look at stacks of thylakoids they are known as grain the other essential part that you need from the chloroplast is the stroma and it is the liquid-filled space that surrounds the thylakoids and it is where a another reaction of photosynthesis is going and that reaction is known as the independent reaction also called the Calvin cycle the thylakoids contain a pigment known as chlorophyll which gives the chloroplasts their green color and this pigment is responsible ASL for absorbing light energy that smiley going to be coming from the Sun there are two main steps to photosynthesis the first step that we will be talking about is the light. reaction in it as I mentioned earlier it takes place in the thylakoids and the Second Step that we're going to be talking about takes place in the stroma and it's called the Calvin cycle or you can call it the light in the reaction is chloroplast that we're looking at in this illustration is very simplified and that it's just showing a stack of thylakoids on the last and the stroma where the Calvin cycle take place is pictured on the right let's talk about the light dependent reaction first and as I just said it takes place in the thylakoids so basically what happens is the photosynthetic organism such as a plant 6 water molecules into the chloroplast and then is going to move that those water molecules further into the thylakoids like you see on the left of this illustration notice the six water molecules are in touring into the thylakoids along with sunlight the sunlight is being absorbed by the chlorophyll that is also in the thylakoids so we've got light in he coming in on the left into the thylakoids and we also have six water molecules coming into the left and they are going to be used during the light dependent reaction. Reaction is going to take place in the thylakoid so the light energy that is coming in from the spawn is going to allow the sticks water molecules to be broken down into 12 hydrogen atoms stick oxygen atoms next those oxygen atoms are going to pair up as O2 which is what we breathe in so they're going to be 302 Mall tools that are created and those 302 molecules are going to be released as a waste product notice on the left hand side where the light dependent reaction is taking place that O2 is being dumb out of the chloroplast is being released as a waste product the 12 hydrogen atoms that were left over from the light dependent reaction will next be sent to the light in reaction remember the light independent reaction is also called the Calvin cycle the Calvin cycle like I told you earlier takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast so in order for the hydrogen to get from the thylakoid to the stroma there has to be a carrier molecule the carrier molecule that is involved in this situation is something called in plus and what is going to essentially do is pick up the hydrogens from the thylakoid and move them over to the stroma so the hydrogen can be used during the light independent reaction so the nadp plus is basically acting like a shuttle service it picks up energy along with one or two hydrogen that were created during the dependent reaction and it becomes nadph or nadph to after it's picked up the hydrogen has it been is going to carry the hydrogens to the stroma so that can be used during the light independent reaction and this is going to occur until all of the 12 hydrogen that were created during the light dependent reaction have been moved over to destroy, so that they can be used during the light in henna reaction at the same time that this is occurring something else is occurring as well a third phosphate group is binding to ADP turning get into ATP and this ATP is also going to be sent over to the light independent reaction and it is going to be used to energize the process of making glucose seeing the illustration there's a constant cycle between the light dependent reaction and the Calvin cycle nadp becoming nadph as the nadp picks up hydrogen Carrie's those hydrogen's over to the Calvin cycle to be dumped off also there's a constant cycling of ATP having a phosphate group added to it becoming cheap and then the ATP expenses energy over in the Calvin cycle take note that on the right hand side of the illustration up near the top there are carbon dioxide molecules moving into the chloroplast that represents the six carbon dioxide molecules that are entering the stroma and will be part of the light independent reaction also known as the Calvin cycle so basically what is going happen to those six carbon dioxide is this there going to be broken down into six carbons and 12 oxygens now you need to remember that there were 12 hydrogen's that were also brought over to the Calvin cycle from the light dependent reaction so those 12 hydrogen's along with the six carbon atoms from the carbon dioxide and six of the oxen atoms from the carbon dioxide are going to be combined together to make Coast so the ATP that I mentioned earlier is going to energize to production of this and that's ultimately what the plant wanted to make it wanted to make the glucose so from the six carbon dioxide there are still six oxygen atoms that were left over so those six oxygen atoms are going to pair up as 302 molecules which like I said earlier is what we breathe in and they're going to be released as a waste product out into the atmosphere organism that is performing the photosynthesis and Wallah that is the whole process of photosynthesis I know it's complicated but trust me when I it has been greatly simplified
